Debbie is a licensed certified clinical social worker (LCSW-C) for the state of Maryland.  She joined the practice at Prospect Cottage in November 2019, providing individual and marital counseling as well as group therapy when warranted.

Debbie enjoys gardening, photography, reading, yoga, and traveling.  She believes in the healing power of nature and strives to be outdoors as much as possible, often chasing her energetic grandchildren and two miniature Australian shepherds.

Education and Counseling Philosophy

Debbie holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Hood College and a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Social Work.  She uses an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing upon various aspects of cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic methods to best address the client’s needs. Debbie provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere where she strives to help clients learn new ways of coping with life’s challenges to promote happiness and fulfillment. 

Experience

Debbie has 16+ years’ experience in the mental health field, working as a crisis counselor in the emergency room, providing both inpatient and outpatient therapy, and extensive experience facilitating Intensive Outpatient group therapy.  She has been most successful leading Empowering Women Groups.  Debbie is effective in the treatment of anxiety, depression, grief, self-esteem, communication skills, co-dependency, stress management, women’s issues, and relationship problems.
